Diversity Skills Application Workshop - Helping managers to implement diversity in everyday situations and interactions with their teams It is critically important for individuals and managers to have their awareness raised about diversity issues and their personal responsibility with regard to diversity implementation. What is equally important is to give them skills and tools so that they can confidently manage difficult situations and interactions at work. Many conflict situations may well have a diversity root and the manager's task is to know the right thing to say and the right thing to do and be able to say it and do it. Workshop Overview Session 1 Introductions Session 2 The Business Case In this session we will explain the difference between equality and diversity, look at some foundation principles and definitions of diversity, and establish the connection between diversity implementation and organisational effectiveness. Session 3 The Diversity Behaviours CircleA look at the different ways in which people might respond to diversity issues from the Antagonist to the Colluder to the Silent Supporter to the Fanatic. People will work in groups and identify behaviours which evidence each category and consider how they would manage someone belonging in any one of the groups. Session 4 Champion SkillsA reminder of all the behaviours that Diversity Champions should be demonstrating. Session 5 The EQUIP modelA way of capturing all the necessary skills that Diversity Champions need and practice at the key skill of listening. Session 6 Skills PracticeThis is the part where people work in groups on case studies around management responsibility for implementing diversity. The case studies would be put together in consultation with the client in order to reflect any current areas of concern, and to include examples of every day situations in which diversity in practice can be observed. It is the handling of the day-to-day matters which will demonstrate whether diversity is leaving and breathing in an organisation. This session will also involve structured group role play of key skills needed. This is a very powerful learning tool and has a high impact.
