Workshop Overview

Session 1    Introductions
Session 2    The Business Case

In this session we will explain the difference between equality and diversity, look at some foundation principles and definitions of diversity, and establish the connection between diversity implementation and organisational effectiveness.

Session 3    The Diversity Behaviours Circle

A look at the different ways in which people might respond to diversity issues from the Antagonist to the Colluder to the Silent Supporter to the Fanatic. People will work in groups and identify behaviours which evidence each category and consider how they would manage someone belonging in any one of the groups.

Session 4    Champion Skills

A reminder of all the behaviours that Diversity Champions should be demonstrating.

Session 5    The EQUIP model

A way of capturing all the necessary skills that Diversity Champions need and practice at the key skill of listening.

Session 6    Skills Practice

This is the part where people work in groups on case studies around management responsibility for implementing diversity. The case studies would be put together in consultation with the client in order to reflect any current areas of concern, and to include examples of every day situations in which diversity in practice can be observed. It is the handling of the day-to-day matters which will demonstrate whether diversity is leaving and breathing in an organisation. This session will also involve structured group role play of key skills needed. This is a very powerful learning tool and has a high impact.

Session 7    Action Planning

People will complete a Key Reflections Sheet and take away an action plan they can use with their teams.
